More than 50 injured after shirtless man unleashes bear spray during Pride gathering in NYC park, causing stampede
Briefly

A Pride celebration in Washington Square Park turned chaotic when false reports of gunfire prompted a stampede, causing over 50 injuries. Concurrently, a man using bear spray in panic injured several attendees. With estimates of 10,000 people present, many fled hastily through police barriers. Although injuries were reported, none were deemed life-threatening. Witnesses described the panic and confusion, with some participants believing they were under gunfire. The situation raised concerns about the effectiveness of barricades during such emergencies.
We all thought some fanatic with a gun was shooting people, so of course we all ran in whatever direction would get us out of the park the fastest.
The barricades did more harm than good while they were trying to escape, and even contributed to some of the chaos.
