Christopher Michael Leahy, 31, was charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of 19-year-old University of Washington student Juniper Blessing. Blessing was found dead in a laundry room at the Nordheim Court apartment complex on 10 May after being stabbed more than 40 times, according to the medical examiner. Prosecutors allege Leahy acted with premeditated intent and attempted to enter private homes and campus buildings in Seattle’s Ravenna neighborhood in the days before the killing. Court documents allege he stalked another UW student through a multi-building apartment complex and followed her into the building where Blessing’s body was later found. Leahy turned himself in on 13 May after surveillance images were released and is held on $10 million bail. Prosecutors say there is no evidence Blessing was targeted because she was transgender, while her family and friends remember her as loving, talented, and compassionate.
