Josh Cavallo provides mentorship and confidential support to closeted athletes, including Olympians and football players, who do not want to be publicly out. He draws on his own experience of coming out in 2021 to create a safe space for athletes to process their identities privately. Many mentees prefer to keep sexuality separate from their public lives and may plan to come out later or never. Fear of career consequences is a common concern among these athletes. Cavallo also sought reassurance from his coach before publicly coming out, which helped ease his fears.
