US judge overturns Trump order targeting major law firm Jenner & Block
Briefly

A US judge has struck down Donald Trump's executive order against Jenner & Block, a law firm involved in politically charged investigations. The order suspended security clearances and access for the firm's lawyers, particularly criticizing the employment of Andrew Weissmann, a lawyer tied to the Mueller investigation. US District Judge John D. Bates ruled it unconstitutional, emphasizing that the order was politically motivated and violated the First and Fifth Amendments. This ruling aligns with a past decision against a similar order directed at Perkins Coie, showcasing ongoing legal challenges to Trump's initiatives against perceived political adversaries.
Bates did not mince words when calling a Trump executive order unconstitutional, which sought to target Jenner & Block. Trump's order makes no bones about why it chose its target.
The firm sued to block Trump's order, arguing it violated the constitution's first and fifth amendments.
Going after law firms in this way is doubly violative of the constitution, Bates said.
US district judge John D Bates ruled on Friday that Trump's directive violated core rights under the US constitution.
