Cuba has begun freeing about 553 prisoners, many of whom are political prisoners, following a deal with outgoing US President Joe Biden to remove Cuba from the terrorism sponsors list.
Jose Daniel Ferrer, freed opposition leader, expressed gratitude for being home and stated, 'I had been arbitrarily imprisoned for the third time, and a false judicial process had been set up.'
Ferrer founded the Patriotic Union of Cuba and has faced repeated imprisonment, stating on a Miami radio program that Cubans should not fear standing up against their government.
The agreement with Biden provides financial relief for the struggling Cuban economy, though future policy changes under incoming President Donald Trump may reverse these developments.
