The Sudanese government suspended cooperation with a global hunger monitor on Monday, as a civil war drives the expansion of a famine in the country.
The famine declaration for Zamzam camp, which houses hundreds of thousands of internally displaced persons (IDPs), followed mounting alarm over widespread hunger since fighting began in April 2023.
The government's new letter accuses the monitor of issuing unreliable reports undermining Sudan's sovereignty, and claims the forthcoming IPC report lacks updated malnutrition data.
Urgent international cooperation is needed to improve the life chances of millions affected by this ongoing conflict and hunger crisis in Sudan.
