Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib condemned a National Review cartoon depicting her with a detonating pager, calling it racist and harmful to Arab and Muslim communities in a time of crisis.
In her statement, Tlaib emphasized that the cartoon's representation of her amidst recent violence normalizes racism and has the potential to increase hate and violence against vulnerable communities.
The cartoon, created by Henry Payne, showed Tlaib at a desk with a detonating pager while referencing recent explosions in Lebanon, drawing sharp condemnation from Tlaib.
Tlaib expressed her frustration on X, stating, 'This racism will incite more hate + violence against our Arab & Muslim communities, and it makes everyone less safe.'
Following the explosion deaths in Lebanon, Tlaib also highlighted the troubling nature of media portrayals that facilitate normalization of such harmful representations.
