Newcastle United's manager Eddie Howe urged his players to aim for further achievements after the club's historic 2-1 victory over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final, ending a 56-year trophy drought. The team, led by goals from Dan Burn and Alexander Isak, triumphed at Wembley, despite a late goal from Liverpool's Federico Chiesa. Howe expressed satisfaction with the performance and emphasized the importance of celebrating this victory with long-suffering supporters while aiming for more success in the future.
Since the 1969 Fairs Cup win, Newcastle had played in five major finals and lost all of them, scoring just once.
I feel amazing. It's been an incredible day, I am so pleased with our performance. It wasn't a lucky win, it was fully deserved.
We proved we can mix it with the very best and want to do that more often now.
There has to be a celebration. I will certainly be encouraging it, which is very rare for me, but we have to celebrate with our supporters.
