Transport for London (TfL) is set to invest 4 million in replacing all escalators at Cutty Sark station due to their consistent failures over the last four years. Commuters currently face the challenging choice of navigating 121 steps or using a notoriously slow lift, often leading to long waits up to 20 minutes. Despite claims of previous maintenance efforts, locals demand expedited repairs for the escalators as the situation remains untenable for many.
"It's normally a big queue and you end up just waiting there for ages, she explained. I know they're announcing that the escalators don't work on the train now, but you see older people getting off who can't do the walk."
"There's always about 20 people down there waiting for the lift which has got to be the worst lift in London, if not the UK, she added. It's so small you can only get about five people in it. It's shocking."
