A footbridge in Enfield will be named after Barney the cat, reflecting the community's deep affection for him as a beloved local celebrity.
'He would lie in the middle of the bridge and wouldn't move for anyone. People would pat or stroke him as they were on their way to school or work.'
'It is clear from the reaction to Barney's death there is genuine enthusiasm from local residents to create a memorial for him,' the council stated.
'When Barney died, around 150 messages of condolence were posted on the Love Your Doorstep local Facebook page, showing how beloved he was by the community.'
