Disabled access home listed on Airbnb sparks anger
Briefly

Residents of Hackney expressed their outrage over a bungalow, intended for a disabled key worker, being rented on Airbnb. Community members, including Mary Pimm of the Victoria Park Community Association, voiced their frustration, emphasizing the challenges disabled individuals face in finding suitable housing. An investigation is underway by Hackney Council and Peabody, while Airbnb has suspended the listing. With many families in temporary accommodation, this case highlights broader issues of tenancy fraud affecting affordable housing in London, prompting calls for urgent action from authorities.
We're absolutely disgusted, because it's very difficult for people with disability problems to get appropriate homes.
This is far from a victimless crime. The victims are the families in temporary accommodation. There are over 70,000 of families like that in London alone.
We treat all reports of this nature extremely seriously.
As a not-for-profit housing association with a strong social purpose, we are of course totally against anyone fraudulently obtaining affordable housing.
