Plans to develop the UK's biggest heat network aim to supply decarbonised heat to iconic buildings in Westminster, significantly reducing CO2 emissions while enhancing energy security.
The 1bn scheme is projected to save about 75,000 tonnes of CO2 each year, equivalent to planting 1.2 million trees, showcasing a significant environmental impact.
Miatta Fahnbulleh noted that utilizing waste heat from the Thames and Underground not only exemplifies innovative low-carbon heating solutions but also supports job creation.
Currently providing just 3% of the UK's heating needs, heat networks are poised to become crucial in reducing fossil fuel dependency and furthering carbon reduction.
