Heathrow Airport, the world's fourth busiest airport, has been closed until 11:59 p.m. GMT on March 21, 2025, following a significant fire near an electrical substation. This incident led to a power outage impacting airport operations, with Heathrow authorities stressing the importance of safety. Approximately 200,000 passengers and 1,300 flights are expected to be disrupted. The fire, which began late Thursday evening in Hayes, West London, was reported to be under control by Friday morning. Passengers were advised against traveling to the airport until further notice.
"To maintain the safety of our passengers and colleagues, we made the decision to close Heathrow until 23h59 on 21 March 2025," a spokesperson for the airport stated.
"We expect significant disruption over the coming days and passengers should not travel to the airport under any circumstances until the airport reopens," the spokesperson added.
