The Home Office incurred significant costs related to bedbug detection, spending £5,536 on sniffer dogs to investigate an infestation at its Westminster headquarters.
Tests by the Government Property Agency revealed traces of bedbugs, leading to a total expenditure of £11,072 for dog detection air sampling and pest control measures.
Despite the infestation, the Home Office assured that no funds were wasted on new furniture and that all buildings remained safe and operational for staff.
The NHS notes that while bed bugs don't transmit diseases, bites can lead to itchy wounds, and infestations in London have increased significantly.
