Mark Richardson, sub-officer at Stratford Fire Station, said: "We just want to encourage people to buy their scooters and e-bikes from a reputable shop. They're great, but they need to be bought safely to keep them safe once they've got them to use."
The London Fire Brigade reported attending 124 e-bike fires and 24 e-scooter fires this year, highlighting the growing safety concerns regarding these vehicles and their chargers.
Mr. Richardson emphasized that fires involving e-bikes and e-scooters often develop quickly, stating: "People are charging these things indoors, often in the hallway... creating a fire hazard that means people struggle to get out."
Graham Beers, station commander at Stratford Fire Station, urged public awareness around charging and storing e-bikes and e-scooters safely to mitigate the fire risks.
