The owner of Lala Books in South London issued an emotional plea following a recent break-in, where an iPhone and an ATM card were stolen, and the shop's window was damaged. Despite the incident, she expressed gratitude it wasn't worse. She addressed the community regarding shoplifting incidents, linking them to the rising cost of living and her own struggles as a small business owner. She offered to provide free books to those who genuinely can't afford them, emphasizing her commitment to ethical business practices and community support.
Happy Friday everyone. We might be a bit slower this morning as we had a break in last night. It wasn't too bad really - a front window smashed (sadly our beautiful Victorian wobbly glass), an iPhone and a business ATM card stolen. It could have been way worse.
I get it, the cost of living sucks, so does capitalism really, shoplifting might even feel exciting! But I'd just like to take this opportunity to say that Lala Books is a solo-female owned business, there's no millionaires behind this.
