Business minister Gareth Thomas stated that the Post Office is facing significant commercial challenges, emphasizing the need for cultural change to prioritize postmasters and customers' needs.
The Post Office is now looking to offload 115 directly-owned branches as part of a major overhaul, putting approximately 1,000 workers' roles at risk due to streamlining operations.
Mr. Thomas noted that around half of the Post Office branches are unprofitable and highlighted the stagnation of postmaster pay over the last decade as a critical concern.
He urged that more action is needed to rebuild trust in the Post Office, which is crucial for the community, especially considering the essential banking services it provides.
