Khalid Edah-Tally, a London minicab driver, has shared the struggles faced by drivers as they now need to work up to 100 hours a week to maintain their incomes amid rising living expenses. With the costs of fuel, insurance, and parking soaring, drivers observe that they are constantly pressed to extend their shifts, compromising safety on the roads. Edah-Tally warns that this has resulted in a higher number of accidents and emphasizes the unsustainability of such conditions when salaries remain stagnant in a context of increasing costs.
It's incredibly hard to make a living. The salaries have remained the same while everything else has gone up. The cost of living has gone up, and the cost of working has gone up.
Drivers are pushing themselves more and more. They are working longer hours which makes it unsafe on the roads. We have seen an increase in accidents in private hire vehicles.
