She led me to the living room for a VHS screening of what I was told was one of Liza's finest performances. I was expecting Cabaret, the winner of eight Academy Awards, but not on this occasion. She sat me on the sofa and played Episode 414 of The Muppet Show from 1979, with special guest the one and only Liza Minnelli."
Bronzed hair tools and heavy cologne accompany a night out in Blackpool, shaped by hedonism, theatres, and showy entertainment. Coming out at 14 and studying performing arts from 16, the narrator is smuggled into clubs and spends spare time watching performances. After a bar closes, a drag queen takes them home and welcomes them into an education beyond university. The drag queen is a Liza Minnelli tribute act who knows Liza’s performances and choreography. At home, a VHS screening begins with The Muppet Show episode featuring Liza Minnelli, creating a memorable musical experience through committed performance and showmanship.
