Kneecap, a Belfast-based rap group performing in Irish, surprised fans with an impromptu concert at the 100 Club in London, shortly after member Liam Og O hAnnaidh was charged over a controversial Hezbollah flag display. The show sold out instantly, reflecting the group's strong support. Despite police presence to ensure safety, the event proceeded without major incidents. O hAnnaidh's scheduled court appearance on June 18 adds a layer of complexity to the band's public image, especially as they continue to address social issues related to their music.
In a post on social media earlier announcing the gig, Kneecap said: London. We're back. See you at The 100 Club tonight; tickets on sale in one hour at 4pm.
Kneecap member Liam Og O hAnnaidh was charged by postal requisition and is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on June 18.
The group, who rap in the Irish language, announced they would perform at the 100 Club on Oxford Street on Thursday evening.
O hAnnaidh, 27, was charged over the alleged display of a flag in support of Hezbollah at a gig at the O2 Forum in Kentish Town.
