My violin became my voice, says classical musician
Briefly

David Lopez Ibanez, a classical violinist with London's Philharmonia Orchestra, experienced a devastating loss when his precious 18th Century violin was stolen at a pub in north London. Worth over £150,000, the violin was not just an instrument; Ibanez described it as his 'voice' and companion throughout his musical journey. Stolen on February 18 while he dined with a friend, the incident left him heartbroken as he struggles with the emotional aftermath of losing something he had bonded with deeply over eight years, which included significant milestones in his career.
An instrument to a musician is way more than an object, it's more of a companion," says classical violinist David Lopez Ibanez, whose 18th Century violin was stolen in February.
It's the loss and the grief that it takes a while to get over. I don't think I have got over it yet."
It's entirely heartbreaking. I had it for eight years prior to the theft and it's seen me grow through college, my first professional auditions, lots of highs and lows, bad moments and good moments.
It becomes your voice really, so aside of the actual monetary value of it, to me it really was priceless.
