Notting Hill Carnival: Two stabbed and 423 arrests but 'less serious violence than previous years', police say
Briefly

The two-day Notting Hill Carnival attracted large crowds, with a family-focused Children's Day on Sunday and a peak parade on Monday featuring sound systems, floats and Caribbean food stalls. Police reported two non-life-threatening stabbings and a total of 423 arrests across the event and its approaches. A heavy policing presence used live facial recognition, knife arches and stop-and-search powers to identify and detain suspects. Authorities said the proactive measures and community messages rejecting violence helped prevent more serious incidents than in recent years. Organisers and police thanked those who urged peaceful attendance.
"This year we have proactively targeted those who have attempted to come to carnival to cause harm to others. "We have used live facial recognition, knife arches and our stop and search powers to identify and arrest more than 400 suspects. "These arrests have prevented some of the serious violence we have seen at previous carnivals. "We thank the organisers and others who spoke out in the days and weeks ahead of the event to emphasise what carnival stands for,"
Crowds lined the streets of Notting Hill as dancers paraded through the area, with music and community spirit on full display throughout the two-day celebration. Sunday was dedicated to families, with the Children's Day Parade creating a more relaxed atmosphere. On Monday, the Carnival reached its peak, featuring large sound systems and elaborate floats. Rows of food stalls offered a rich variety of Caribbean flavours - from spicy jerked chicken to curried goat and rum punch cocktails.
