Rob Frith, owner of Neptoon Records in Vancouver, stumbled upon an old tape collecting dust in his store for over a decade. Skeptical about its authenticity as a Beatles demo, he enlisted the help of disc jockey Larry Hennessey to play it. When the tape was finally played, Frith was astonished to hear a clear recording of the Beatles performing Motown's "Money (That's What I Want)". This tape appears to be a professionally edited recording of the band's audition for Decca Records in 1962, which infamously ended in their rejection.
Frith described the moment when the demo was played: "Right away, we're all kind of looking at each other, it seems like the Beatles are in the room."
Frith speculated the tape is a professionally edited recording of the Beatles' New Year's Day 1962 audition, which ended with their rejection from Decca Records.
