Shakespeare's Globe has announced its winter season, featuring two major productions in the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse. The first, "Romeo a Juliet," is a bilingual English and Welsh interpretation that focuses on Welsh identity and runs for just one week. The other, "A Midsummer Night's Dream," will be performed indoors for the first time and promises to delve into the play's darker themes. Additionally, a new musical adaptation of "Pinocchio" will be staged outdoors during Christmas 2025, highlighting a more unique interpretation of the classic tale.
First off, a bilingual English and Welsh take on Romeo and Juliet entitled Romeo a Juliet (Nov 5-8)... it will apparently function as a study of the struggle for Welsh identity.
The big event Bard-wise is A Midsummer Night's Dream (Nov 13-Jan 31 2025)... apparently explore the darker corners of the play.
But for Christmas 2025 the Globe is going big with Pinocchio (Nov 29-Jan 4 2026), a new musical adaptation... Expect a relatively quirky, lo-fi affair, but also expect an actual full musical.
It's only on for a week, so you'll have to be quick to catch it.
