June features a dense schedule of notable London theatre openings. The National Theatre leads with three productions: a return of a large-scale spectacle in the Olivier, a modern update of Molière’s The Misanthrope starring Sandra Oh in the Lyttelton, and a new musical in the Dorfman created by the team behind a well-known queer 2014 film. Elsewhere, a major Frank Sinatra jukebox musical opens, offering a large popular draw. Under the Shadow brings a stage adaptation of a 2016 cult horror film to the stage, set in 1980s Tehran during the Iran-Iraq war, following a mother and daughter targeted by a malevolent presence.
