Call for ban on lords being paid to offer political advice
Briefly

A recent investigation revealed that more than 10% of peers in the House of Lords receive payments for political advice, prompting calls for tighter regulations. Gabe Winn, a lobbying firm chief executive, highlighted concerns regarding the transparency and integrity of lobbying practices. Although the House of Lords conduct committee is set to revise its code, it won't address the issues related to allowing paid advisory roles. Winn's letter to Angela Smith emphasizes the need for urgency in tackling this issue to restore faith in the House of Lords.
I firmly believe that lobbying is an essential part of the parliamentary process and that, done ethically and transparently, it helps make better laws... However, I and other leaders in my industry have become increasingly concerned at the growing perception that lobbying lacks the transparency and trust that are essential to the integrity of our democratic system.
Gabe Winn urged the leader of the House of Lords to make tighter restrictions on peers being paid to offer political advice an urgent priority, following a Guardian investigation.
