From David Bowie to Bridget Hitler take a 'rather splendid' pub walk with Joolz
Briefly

Joolz, also known as Julian McDonnell, has released a book titled 'Rather Splendid London Pub Walks,' emphasizing leisurely walks through London's neighborhoods while highlighting nearby pubs. The book features engaging anecdotes, quizzes, and interesting historical tidbits about the areas explored, such as Bloomsbury, Clapham, and Hammersmith. Rather than being a traditional pub guide, it showcases the cultural significance of pubs in British life, aiming to encourage enjoyable outings with convenient resting spots at various drinking establishments.
"It's not a pub guide but a book of walks with pubs en route," says Joolz, aka Julian McDonnell.
"The pubs aren't necessarily amazing, some are just conveniently positioned to break your journey. But pubs are the cornerstone of British life and are often the oldest building in the street - all pubs can be interesting in their own way, even the less famous ones."
The guide is packed with gossip about who lived or drank in the area, quirky quotes, and historic features to look out for.
The chapter on Crouch End includes stories about The Parkland Walk Spriggan, a rumoured Bob Dylan visit, and the birth of Jerry Springer at Highgate station during the Blitz.
