The plans to enlarge the public park by taking land from a golf club near Wimbledon have stirred significant controversy, yet they aim to improve local tennis facilities.
The All England Lawn Tennis Club will invest around £10 million in upgrades to the existing park, which includes increased biodiversity and improved access between sites.
The scheme will add 39 new tennis courts, allowing 10,000 spectators to attend early matches, versus the current capacity of just 2,000.
Despite local objections over crowds and construction, a GLA report stated the project's public benefits substantially outweigh the identified drawbacks.
