Hamlet' review: Eddie Izzard better with own musings than Shakespeare
Briefly

Eddie Izzard returns to the stage with a solo performance of Hamlet, though it lacks the comedic energy that fans have come to expect. While Izzard brings a vibrant presence, her fast-paced rendition with a brisk adaptation by Mark Izzard leaves many characters underdeveloped. The performance struggles to convey the dramatic gravitas of Shakespeare's original text, alienating those unfamiliar with the play. Comic moments do shine, particularly with puppets and gravediggers, but ultimately, the adaptation falls short of capturing the tragic essence of the classic.
Izzard feels far less electric on stage, as there's little room in this tragic masterpiece for her signature brand of lacerating wit.
The frantic pace also conspires against the depth of passion in the narrative, causing many of the roles to feel less than fleshed out.
