Mary Mason, an Independent Socialist councillor from Haringey, is participating in a march to Gaza alongside 3,000 activists to protest Israel's blockade and ongoing war. The march, organized by Global March To Gaza, aims to highlight what they see as breaches of international law by Israel, particularly following the interception of an aid boat. Mason expressed her concerns about activists facing potential detention in Egypt, emphasizing the urgency and significance of their mission in calling for accountability regarding Israel's actions in Gaza and beyond.
Cllr Mason confirmed she had arrived in Egypt but had not set out on the walk and that dozens of the activists were potentially facing detention and deportation.
After the interception on Monday (June 9) in international waters of the freedom flotilla yacht Madleen by the Israeli navy and the whereabouts of the vessel and crew currently unknown, the Global March takes on a heightened significance.
