Chloe Adlerstein, a 32-year-old woman with Thalassaemia, emphasizes the dire need for blood donors as national supplies dwindle. This inherited blood disorder necessitates her receiving transfusions biweekly, making her dependent on the generosity of others. She highlights how significant blood donations are for her quality of life, stating that without them, survival would be impossible. Compounding the issue, a recent cyberattack on London hospitals has worsened blood shortages, prompting NHS calls for one million new donors to avert a crisis and protect patients reliant on transfusions.
Without blood I wouldn't be able to survive. I am at the mercy of people who go and give blood. It's a really selfless act for people to take time out of their busy lives to go and donate blood.
I know it's a bit of a faff and you need to sign up, but it not only saves lives in emergencies, but it gives people like me the opportunity to live a full life as well.
