Suicide remains the second-leading cause of death for youth ages 10-25 in California, and rates have increased over the last two decades. Year after year, more youth die by suicide than motor vehicle accidents. Too many communities across California have been devastated by youth suicides, including my hometown of Palo Alto. We must do everything we possibly can to prevent these tragedies, said Berman, whose District 23 includes Campbell.

He said he donated because it "is the right thing to do", although his status as a super donor does make him feel "quite proud". "I just think it's not particularly difficult - it is quite quick, quite easy, so it doesn't really take a lot of my time. It just seems to me an important thing to do," he said.

For the fifth consecutive year, Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford has achieved the "High Performing" designation for maternity care from U.S. News & World Report. U.S. News evaluates hospitals based on cesarean section rates, rates of early elective delivery, complication rates among newborns, breastfeeding support, and the availability of vaginal births after cesarean, comparing over 800 U.S. hospitals that participated in a 2024 survey. Fewer than half achieved the "High Performing" status.

Prince Forde, a proud Barbadian cultural advocate and co-founder of the Caribbean Music Awards, and Keenan Special Bristol, a Guyanese-American artist and activist, are using their platforms to save lives. In 2025, giving blood is less painful and more inclusive than you might remember. More members of the LGBTQ+ community are now welcome to donate blood after the U.S. Federal Drug Administration updated blood donation guidelines in 2023. And just this year, the oft-dreaded finger stick was replaced with a sensor slipped on to a finger to measure a donor's hemoglobin, the protein in blood that carries oxygen.

"Blood donation services in many countries are unable to meet the demands for collecting and storing healthy blood, leading to critical shortages worldwide."

I wouldn't say it's quite like a superpower but I do think it's amazing that something that you just happened to be born with can help so many people.
