Memorial event to honour the life of Sir Jack Petchey

Redbridge Council is set to commemorate Sir Jack Petchey, who passed away in June 2024, with a memorial event on March 14, 2025. The event includes the unveiling of an oak tree and a plaque bearing one of his favorite sayings, "From little acorns, mighty oak trees grow." Sir Jack, who had no formal qualifications yet became a successful businessman and philanthropist, established the Jack Petchey Foundation to empower youth. The foundation has significantly contributed to educational initiatives, including $4.2 million in Redbridge alone, positively impacting the community's young people.
Councillor Kam Rai reflected on Sir Jack's legacy, stating, "Sir Jack was a shining example to us all, showing how far you can go with sheer determination and hard work."
Rai emphasized the impact of Sir Jack's contributions, saying, "We are delighted to provide a lasting and fitting memorial in honour of Sir Jack, ensuring that his legacy lives on and continues to inspire and empower our community for future generations."
Matthew Rantell expressed gratitude towards Sir Jack's dedication, noting, "His passing deeply saddens us, but we are forever grateful for his dedication and the positive change he brought to our community."
The event will unveil an oak tree and plaque inscribed with Sir Jack's favorite phrase: 'From little acorns, mighty oak trees grow.'
