Residents of Gospel Oak, including Dr. Stan Theophilou, have reported ongoing issues with rubbish collection service provided by Veolia, which has resulted in bins remaining unemptied for days. Complaints highlight the impact of overflowing bins on pedestrian access, especially for vulnerable individuals. Dr. Theophilou recalled that there were no prior issues with trash collection before Camden Council's partnership with Veolia. In response to concerns, the council plans to invest an additional £1 million to improve waste collection and street cleaning efforts to mitigate these problems.
Dr Theophilou expressed frustration that Veolia's missed rubbish collections have turned his community's streets into a navigational hazard for pedestrians, especially vulnerable individuals.
He criticized Veolia's failure to return bins to their proper places, leading to prolonged clutter on pavements and negatively impacting the aesthetics of their neighborhood.
Veolia and Camden Council defend their practices but face mounting complaints from residents who are unsatisfied with the current waste collection services.
Cllr Adam Harrison stated that Camden Council is investing an additional million in street cleaning and rubbish collection to address these issues and improve service.
