Dramatic CCTV footage captured the arrest of two prolific shoplifters, Donavan Soloman and Lee Moise, by neighbourhood police officers in East London. The officers, observing the shoplifting incident in real-time from a storeroom, intervened as the suspects attempted to steal cigarettes and vapes. Both individuals were arrested and are now sentenced to 10 and 12 months in prison respectively, with previous theft convictions noted. The Metropolitan Police continue to work on reducing retail crime, aiming to alleviate the fear it causes among retail workers and communities.
Soloman, 37, was sentenced to 10 months' imprisonment having pleaded guilty to burglary and criminal damage, while Moise, 38, received 12 months for theft.
Inspector Uddin noted that tackling prolific shoplifters addresses the fear they instill in retail workers and the negative community impact of their actions.
The arrest occurred at 7:42 am on December 22, when officers, having witnessed the incident via CCTV, intervened while the suspects attempted to steal.
The Metropolitan Police aim to curb retail crime with targeted operations, having secured imprisonment for six prolific shop thieves in the past seven months.
