New dog rules introduced by Tower Hamlets council
Briefly

Tower Hamlets council has enacted new regulations restricting dogs from gated children's play areas and mandating leashes on pathways, following recent dog attacks that raised safety concerns among residents. These Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs) reflect community apprehensions, particularly regarding children's safety. While dogs can still play off-lead in parks, the new rules set limits, such as a maximum of four dogs per owner unless licensed. Exceptions apply for assistance dogs, aligning with the Equality Act 2010, as the council balances community safety with responsible dog ownership.
"Several high-profile incidents led to residents expressing concern about dangerous dogs, particularly about risks to young children," Councillor Shafi Ahmed stated, emphasizing community safety.
Tower Hamlets has the eighth highest crime reports related to dog attacks among all London boroughs, with 92 reported incidents from April to October 2024.
