Mayor of London, Sir Sadiq Khan, is attending the MIPIM conference in Cannes to attract £22 billion in foreign investment for 20 key projects across London. This marks his first appearance at the event in nine years. The investment aims to enhance infrastructure, housing, and public transport in the capital. Several boroughs, including Barnet and Islington, are also vying for funding. The conference serves as a platform for connecting international investors with local projects, promoting sustainable development and economic growth in London, as emphasized by Khan's commitment to advocating for the city.
Speaking to BBC London, Sir Sadiq said: "One of the ways to stimulate growth in our economy is more foreign direct investment. That will help build more homes, help invest in public transport, and help invest in infrastructure."
The conference website said the event was designed for investors to "access global capital" and for those attending to "discover solutions to make assets more sustainable in a changing world."
