Mayor Sadiq Khan firmly opposes the proposed third runway at Heathrow Airport, arguing it would negate the significant environmental benefits achieved through the Ultra-Low Emission Zone (Ulez). Since its inception in 2019, Ulez has contributed to a 27% reduction in nitrogen dioxide and a 2% reduction in carbon dioxide in London. Khan emphasizes that the air pollution hotspots in west London would worsen with a new runway, making it unfair for Heathrow to benefit from Ulez improvements without contributing to the associated infrastructural costs.
All of the gains we have made by Ulez would be lost by a third runway.
You can't benefit from our policies in relation to the arguments for the third runway.
