MobLand, created by Ronan Bennett and directed by Guy Ritchie, showcases Tom Hardy in a gripping role that combines sharp writing with stylish direction. Initially conceived as a prequel to Ray Donovan, it evolved into an original crime drama that explores themes of power and negotiation within London's crime families. Hardy's character, Harry, seamlessly balances deferential qualities and assertive power, demonstrating his intelligence while managing conflicts between rival factions, ultimately making the show captivating despite its familiar genre tropes.
It's really an extension of the fact that network partner CBS has had the oldest average viewer for generations, which has extended a sort of "old-fashioned," sometimes even arguably MAGA production schedule.
Ritchie brings his A-game to this two-episode premiere, shooting the twisty plot with just enough style to elevate it without pulling attention from what really works here: sharp writing and an even sharper performance from Tom Hardy.
