The Rosalind Franklin rover, part of the European Space Agency's ExoMars mission, is now set for launch in 2028 after overcoming challenges due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Initially expected to launch in 2022, the project was reassessed, securing funding and new agreements, including NASA providing the launch and other components. Airbus in the UK will build the lander as part of a £150 million contract. The rover aims to retrieve 4 billion-year-old samples from below the Martian surface to investigate the potential for past life.
Mars landing is not an easy task, and the schedule is ambitious. The idea is for the rover and lander to be inside a capsule with a heat shield.
