While hiking at Runyon Canyon, Scott Anthony Mitchell and Davanh DiMarco witnessed a fire and a man suspected of starting it. Previously evacuated during the Sunset fire, they were alert to the dangers. They restrained the suspect, who admitted to starting the fire. Mitchell chased the man down and DiMarco recorded the incident. Other hikers assisted in detaining the suspect until police and fire departments arrived to extinguish the fire. The couple later expressed shock over the incident and how far the video went viral.
Mitchell was able to chase the suspect down, quickly closing a 150-yard gap. 'I was just surprised I had a little left in the tank,' he joked.
DiMarco uploaded the video when the couple got off the hill. 'I didn't realize how big it would be,' she said. 'It's sad that he admitted that he did that and didn't care.'
