Max Muncy is expected to return from the injured list next week after he faces live pitching and possibly begins a rehab assignment. Muncy was placed on the 10-day IL on Aug. 15 with a right oblique strain after recently returning from a knee injury. He initially went on the IL in early July following a collision that appeared severe but caused no structural damage and led to an earlier-than-expected return. A Grade 1 oblique strain followed after soreness during pregame cage work, and the injury is described as similar but less severe than last season’s strain. Roster moves included claiming Buddy Kennedy and later designating him for assignment to activate Kiké Hernández. Muncy and Hernández are key lineup pieces for the Dodgers down the stretch of the NL West race.
Manager Dave Roberst told reporters that Muncy will face live pitching on Tuesday. Muncy could also begin a rehab assignment this week, setting him up for a return next week. He had just returned from a knee injury 11 days prior.
This was already good news for Los Angeles but even better news came when Muncy returned after just over four weeks. But Muncy's return did not last long. He was diagnosed with a Grade 1 oblique strain after feeling soreness during pregame cage work before a game against the Los Angeles Angels. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the injury is similar but less mild than the strain that sidelined him for three months last season.
