L.A. County teen 'serial swatter' is sentenced to prison
Briefly

Alan W. Filion, an 18-year-old from Lancaster, was sentenced to four years for making more than 375 hoax calls threatening violence. His actions, which included threats to detonate bombs and conduct mass shootings, resulted in significant law enforcement responses and stretched resources thin. Filion, who advertised his services on social media, pleaded guilty to federal charges linked to threats made from August 2022 to January 2023, affecting numerous U.S. institutions and individuals. His activities included a particular threat involving a religious organization in Florida and bomb threats targeting educational institutions.
Filion was both a recreational swatter and a swatter-for-hire who advertised his services of mass disruption on social media platforms, prosecutors said.
According to prosecutors, the calls targeted high schools, colleges and universities, places of worship, government officials and individuals across the United States.
