""This whole case is really sad. It's so senseless," said Bott, who said Nowden lacked a "moral compass.""
""moral compass.""
Elliot Tramel Nowden was convicted of murder and robbery for the April 2024 killing of 67-year-old Mirna Soza Arauz on the L.A. Metro B Line. Jurors found the killing occurred while committing a felony, making Nowden eligible for life in state prison without the possibility of parole at sentencing. Arauz, a night-shift security worker saving to buy a home in Nicaragua, was stabbed in the throat and had her bag stolen at the Universal City station after Nowden boarded the train with two serrated kitchen knives. Video showed Nowden board at Universal City, ride to North Hollywood, and attack on the return. Nowden had a prior 2019 transit stabbing arrest.
