Months after the Palisades Fire in California, evidence suggests that fireworks may have rekindled a previous brush fire that led to significant devastation. Reports and videos from UC San Diego indicate a connection between a New Year's Eve fire and the subsequent Palisades Fire. Investigators and local residents have suggested that the initial fire, described as the Lachman Fire, left behind smoldering spots that ignited the larger blaze days later. Retired investigator Terry Taylor supports this theory, underscoring the potential link between the two events.
I think calling it a rekindle is a valid thing," said Terry Taylor, a retired wildland fire investigator. His view reinforces the connection between the New Year's Eve fire and the Palisades Fire.
We were in the neighborhood the morning of New Year's and we heard some fireworks going off around us," said Eric Robertson, a Pacific Palisades resident, recalling the events leading up to the fire.
Is there a connection? 100% there's a connection," Pacific Palisades resident Jeremy Wineberg stated, highlighting the similarities between the two fires' origins.
It is certainly a good supposition," Taylor said, discussing the theory that the Palisades Fire stemmed from smoldering spots of the earlier fire.
