Southern California is facing extreme fire weather as wind gusts reach dangerous levels, leading to the outbreak of new wildfires. The National Weather Service warns of a particularly dangerous situation in several counties due to low humidity and the strong Santa Ana winds. Evacuation orders have been issued in response to the Lilac Fire, which threatens structures. Previous fires in the region are still being managed, demonstrating ongoing challenges for emergency responders during this heightened risk period.
‘The conditions are ripe for explosive fire growth should a fire start,’ said Andrew Rorke, a meteorologist with the weather service in Oxnard.
Evacuation orders were issued for the Lilac Fire, which had burned about 50 acres (20 hectares). It was growing ‘with a moderate rate of spread and structures are threatened,’ the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection posted.
