Southern California is set to experience its first significant rainstorm of the season, with meteorologists forecasting heavy rainfall and the potential for flooding. The storm is expected to start impacting the region Sunday morning, with a flood watch in effect until Monday afternoon. Locations like Los Angeles and Ventura counties may receive up to 3 inches of rain, while other areas could see significant amounts as well. The slow-moving nature of the storm means it will persist through Monday, increasing the risk of flooding, especially in burn areas from wildfires in previous years.
This is "a slow moving storm, so it's going to be stubborn. It's going to hang around," said Alex Tardy, meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in San Diego.
Forecasters have increased their projections of how much rain could fall. The adjusted forecast is a result of the low pressure system, dropping in from Canada, appearing to veer a little bit more to the west.
