Saints sticking with Carr as QB1, says GM Loomis
Briefly

Mickey Loomis, the New Orleans Saints General Manager, announced that Derek Carr will continue as the team's starting quarterback in 2025 during the NFL scouting combine. Carr's capability has received praise from both Loomis and new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, who emphasized his experience and skill set. Despite facing salary cap constraints, Loomis remains optimistic about the team's moves during free agency, including possibilities for restructuring Carr's substantial contract to alleviate cap pressure, potentially freeing up $31 million.
Loomis, who sat down with reporters at the NFL scouting combine on Wednesday, said "they're excited about it." "I think we feel like we've got a guy we can win with," Loomis said.
Moore, who also met with the media on Wednesday in Indianapolis, praised Carr's processing ability and said clips of Carr were often used on teams' concept teaching tapes throughout the league.
Loomis admitted the Saints are expected to be "tight" against the cap with free agency just two weeks away, but he still thinks the team will be active in free agency.
The Saints could free up almost $31 million in cap space this year by restructuring Carr's contract.
