After one season in New York, Gimenez's tenure with the Mets was shortly over. Giménez was traded by the Mets in part of the trade that sent superstar shortstop Francisco Lindor to New York from Cleveland."
"While trading away Giménez was a move that happened several years ago, it's may be tough for that team to see Giménez making Gold Glove caliber plays for the Blue Jays and wonder 'why didn't we hang on to that guy?' Of course, they have their own superstar shortstop in Lindor who has been one of the top players in baseball since the trade -"
Andrés Giménez began with the Mets, finishing top 10 in NL Rookie of the Year voting in 2020. The Mets traded him to Cleveland as part of the deal that brought Francisco Lindor to New York. Giménez spent four seasons with the Guardians, winning three Gold Gloves and earning his first All-Star selection in 2022. The Blue Jays acquired Giménez in the most recent offseason. In 2025, Giménez delivered timely October performances as Toronto stood one win from the ALCS. The Mets missed the 2025 playoffs despite a strong June record and heavy payroll. The Guardians won the AL Central but lost in the Wild Card series.
