The Blue Jays' December 2024 trade for Andrés Giménez and Nick Sandlin appears regrettable due to poor offensive production and injury issues.
With the absence of Bo Bichette, Andres Gimenez appears to be the perfect candidate to fill the shortstop void for the foreseeable future. From 2022-2024, was the best defender in baseball, registering 7.9 BWAR, topping teammate , who posted a 7.7 mark during that same stretch. Though he has spent the majority of his career at second base, he possesses the tools necessary to make a full-time shift to shortstop and command the Blue Jays' infield defensively. Daulton Varsho
In 2020, Andrés Giménez finished his rookie season by finishing in the top 10 in NL Rookie of the Year voting as a member of the New York Mets. After one season in New York, Gimenez's tenure with the Mets was shortly over. Giménez was traded by the Mets in part of the trade that sent superstar shortstop Francisco Lindor to New York from Cleveland.
Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette hasn't appeared in a game since September 6. That was the day he collided with Yankees catcher Austin Wells on a play at the plate. While he remained in the game following a rain delay, he was placed on the IL on September 9. Just over a week later it was announced that Bichette would miss the remainder of the regular season.
